Collective Haul + Giveaway Winner!

Nothing says ‘New Year, New Me’ like buying more makeup right?

Well, I never made any resolutions for a ‘new me’, but I am trying to make a resolution to stop buying so much stuff. I always use the excuse of like, “well I’m being a consumer and it’s helping out the economy right?”

I decided to end 2016 with a bang by blacking out at Sephora.

Glow Recipe Modeling Rubber Mask | Review + Demo!

“I ain’t got no type, face masks are the only thing that I like” – Rae Sremmurd/Lash-Eyed Beauty

I don’t even think you guys can really begin to comprehend my obsession with masks lately. I have been upping my skincare game and have been so into trying new brands and products that I’ve completely dropped off the face of the makeup world.

Like, I’ve been seeing videos on insta where girls are putting false eyelashes underneath their real lashes?! Like, when the heck did this become a thing? I haven’t even purchased new makeup in probably like, two months. I’m not even kidding. Like, I know I exaggerate a little, but this time I’m not. Unfortunately, this makeup no-buy still causes a dent in my wallet cause I’m on a skincare yes-buy-everything-i-can-buy. I already have two more separate orders from Glow Recipe coming to my house AND I just placed an order with Glossier. THE ADDICTION IS REAL, GURL.

So I stumbled across Glow Recipe on instagram and I had already of rubber masks popping up everywhere in the K-beauty world so I thought, why not grab maybe one, or two, or idk FIVE masks?

I purchased a set of 3 masks (you don’t get to pick which type) and then I purchased two gold masks because well, I love gold. gold-glow

Now if you guys don’t know what rubber masks/modeling masks are, let me break it down for you:

Modeling masks are essentially a thick layer of rubber that fully conforms to the shape of your face, which allows nutrients to be absorbed without the risk of evaporation. Unlike a sheet mask where once exposed to air it starts to lose some of the hydration within the mask (the goopy liquid). So, I decided to try this out cause a rubber mask on your face seemed pretty cool. Spoiler alert: it is.

I got gold because it said there was gold in the mask that helps with inflammation and “calms irritated skin to rejuvenate an exhausted, depleted complexion with a deep dose of hydration.”

Here is what it looks like. A whole container of boring, right?

WRONG. You actually can’t see it, but there were glitter gold speckles in the powder. It was so pretty I couldn’t stop looking at it. Is it real gold? Eh, probs not. But either way it was really cool to look at.

So the directions say to mix this powder with water and then stir and put on yo face. (Surprise! I can read Korean.)

And as you guys can see, it looks like legit pancake batter. It was surprising really cool to the touch and it felt really cooling on my skin. (No I can’t read Korean, there’s instructions in English on the side)

TBH, putting this mask on was the most entertaining thing ever. I was laughing so hard during the application process cause it’s just a hot mess.

What’s the first thing you think of when you see these pics? If you said Mrs. Doubtfire, then we should be best friends cause great minds think alike, haha.

I waited about 20 minutes and my mask dried  (not really it just felt like a thick glue paste thing idk how to describe it you gotta try it to see what I mean) into rubber and I started to peel it off.

The whole time I was wearing this my face felt so cool and refreshed
Now I will say mine did not come off in one piece, I will say that this legit felt like rubber and it was pretty hard to get the residue off especially cause I got it in my eyebrows. It’s such a goopy application, it’s hard to not get it everywhere!

But once I thoroughly washed my face, my skin felt so soft and cool!

My face felt cold and refreshed, like it felt hydrated but I didn’t feel any type of moisture on top of my skin. It was like my face had actually absorbed all the nutrients from the mask. I couldn’t stop touching my face, it just felt really cool, bouncy, and glowing!

I really enjoy using these masks. I was super skeptical at first and it was really messy – bu above all, they are relatively inexpensive; which is great! It’s $15 for 3 masks – you don’t get to pick which ones you get, they have different kinds such as charcoal, collagen, vitamin etc etc. If you;d rather choose which one you want, each individual mask is $6!! And when you are concocting your mask, there’s so much left over that you could even share it with someone. Like, I think these would be great for a fun girls night and one container can easily cover two faces; plus it’s really entertaining. (I had to throw mine out cause I have no friends to share it with)

You guys can check out these masks here! They also have a referral program to give $5 towards your purchase so here is mine 🙂 (this isn’t sponsored or anything, literally anyone can refer other people)

I really think these masks are fun and let me know your thoughts/comments! I had never heard of Glow Recipe before (they were on Shark Tank) and I really enjoy their products so far. I’m stoked to get my other items in!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post! Thank you so much for stopping by! Please be sure to like, follow, and comment if you enjoyed!

Sephora Play! Box | August

Welp, you know what they say – better late than never!

Yeah I am a little late on this month’s box since it’s almost over, but I mean, it’s not September yet so I’m still technically on time…right?

This month’s play box was all about The Eye Openers – everything you need for your eyes to look their absolute best! And let me tell you, I am all about this month’s theme cause my eyes def need some TLC.

Eye openers

Here’s what I got:

  • MUFE Artist Shadow in I-544 – OMG this color is sooo perfect for those transitional fall looks. I love the deep purple/brown granite shade and I really like the pink pigment in it as well! The color is extremely saturated and opaque so a little goes a long way!

makeup forever plum.JPG

  • Urban Decay Perversion Mascara – With the slogan of, “Bigger. Blacker. Badder.” I was expecting this va-va-voom mascara to make my lashes look bad ass, and well, I was slightly disappointed. If you guys have been following me since the beginning, y’all know I love my rubber bristle spiky mascara brushes so I mean, maybe I’m just biased and I wasn’t really feeling this one. I will say that my lashes look nice and long – definitely no issues in the length department, but I wanted more volume and thickness!

Please don’t mind my messy application
  • Clean Reserve Dry Cotton – This perfume straight up smells like the freshest cleanest laundry I have ever smelled in all my 26 years of life. Like, it legit smells like cotton linens. This says it’s a perfume but man, I’m going to use it as a room spray, clothes spray, sneaker spray, car spray, an everything spray. It smells so fresh and so clean, clean. I’m just not gonna wear it directly on my body, haha.
  • Lancome Energie de Vie Smoothing & Glowing Liquid Care Moisturizer – Even though I have shiny, oily skin, I really liked this to make my skin feel quenched and hydrated. It’s more of a gel consistency and color, but it is marked as a liquid lotion – so it’s not as thick as a moisturizer, but it’s also not as light as an essence. My face felt nice and glowy after using it!
  •  Algenist Eye Renewal Balm – This is probably my favorite thing in the box! This eye cream is so hydrating, it pretty much lasts all day. No one really wears makeup at my job, so I have gotten braver with not wearing it everyday and so I just apply this under my eyes in the morning and I swear by the time I get home from work, I can feel like balm still there keeping my under-eyes less puffy and dark.
  • Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12 HR Wear Waterproof Eyeliner in Love Affair – This impressed me a lot because as soon as I swatched it, I ran my finger over it to see if it would smear and it actually didn’t! This color matched the eyeshade very well and it’s such a nice deep purple shade. Unfortunately, all dark liners look black on me so you won’t really be able to see the color, but I will use this nonetheless.

sephora liner.JPG

That’s all I got in my August box! This is only my second Play! box and I have to say that I am loving it so far! I am definitely looking forward to next month’s box!

Thank you so much for reading! Please be sure to like, comment, and follow if you enjoyed!

Maybelline Better Skin Makeup | Review + Demo

I think foundations are becoming my new favorite thing to review.

Wait, who am I kidding? Mascara is my is my favorite thing to review but second would definitely be foundation, but this isn’t a foundation review, this is a review on the whole Better Skin line!

I decided to pick up the new Better Skin line from Maybelline a couple weeks ago on a whim after seeing it displayed at my local Target.

Maybelline 2
Follow me on insta!
This whole Better Skin line claims to improve the dullness of skin, help with dark spots, and create brighter and stress-free skin. It even says it will improve your skin after 3 weeks! Like, hello? Sign me up!

Maybelline Skin
Taken from
This foundation has 16 shades in total and I gotta be honest with you, it was a little difficult trying to find my perfect shade. For foundations, I’m almost always a classic/nude beige so I picked up the shade 45 and man, I was waaaaay off. It was so dark on me I looked like I put spray tan all over my face and then forgot to wash it off.(I switched the 45 for a 30)

Because of my original decision to purchase the shade 45, I bought the shade 50 for the face powder cause it looked really light, and yeah as you guessed it’s too dark but I lost the sponge so I can’t return it :(, but I make it work. I bought the concealer in the shade Medium and that’s perfect for my skin tone. So word of caution, if you go to Target, get matched by the makeup girls that work there, I usually avoid them but in this case I should’ve asked for help!

Let’s get on to the good part: The pics.

Of course I gotta put the no-makeup pic first:

And believe it or not, I have the foundation on at this point! You can’t even tell!

The foundation is really lightweight and is full coverage, which I love. I can’t stand when I can “feel” foundation on my face.It has a nice matte finish and stays put all day. However, I will say that it didn’t really smooth out my pores on my nose, like I felt like my pores were almost 3D looking. This doesn’t really bother me too much as I can always use a pore-filling primer such as Benefit’s Porefessional or Smashbox’s Pore Minimizing primer. This blended nicely with my beauty blender and felt smooth on my skin (with the exception of the nose pores).

Putting on some concealer:

I LOVE this concealer. It’s very brightening, blends well, it’s not drying at all, has great coverage and doesn’t crease or look cakey. It has a very natural look to it and held up well throughout the day. I prefer this over my NARS concealer!

Last but not least, setting my face with powder:

I really like this powder for touch-ups! Before I lost the sponge, it was perfect for adding a little more coverage, however, since I got such a dark color the sponge would concentrate the color so much I would look orange, so until I buy a lighter shade, I like using this with a flat top brush all over my face (specially my nose) and spreading the color out. This is very blendable and besides my nose, looks so natural on the skin. Great coverage, but not too heavy.

Outside lighting
8 AM:

12 PM:

Holding up really nicely!

3 PM: If I start to look sleepy, it’s cause of my allergies.

And finally at 5 PM, time to go home!

Besides my nose pores looking a little more prominent than I liked, I liked the foundation, and I think once I switch up my primer I will love this foundation. No oil peeked through at all so that’s a major win for me! This held up really nicely and let me tell you, I was sneezing so much and wiping my nose a lot (gently of course as to not ruin the makeup) I was surprised it held up that well! I’ve only been using the products for about a week and half, and I mean, I don’t notice an improvement in my skin really, I just like how I’m not oily after the day. I don’t typically purchase face makeup with the intention of making my skin better, I purchase them to cover up my pores and oil! I would say if you’re on the fence about trying these that you should cause it was around $32 for all three products!

Sephora Play! Box – July

Covergirl Clean Matte BB Cream | Review + Demo

Non-Surgical Face Lift | ChinUp Mask Review

Sephora Play! Box – July

Guess which girl signed up for Play! by Sephora subscription boxes?

This girl!

I’m so excited to get to have a chance to try this box, cause I have been eyeing for it forever. I originally got my “invitation” email last year after signing up to be on the waiting list, but I was doing Birchbox at the same time so I decided to pass on it. I definitely regretted that decision so when I signed up for the waiting list again, I received an email a month later and you bet your booty I signed up!

I originally had a six month Bircbox subscription and while I liked it, I realized I wasn’t a fan of getting hand creams and lotions that smelled like grandma all the time, haha. I definitely suggest trying Birchbox out to get your own opinion on it, but if you don’t keep up with like, picking your item of the month and customizing your box (I didn’t, I was too lazy) and if you aren’t too keen on newer brands (new to me, that is. I hadn’t heard of half the brands I received before), then maybe try to get on the waiting list for the Play! by Sephora subscription! You get six deluxe beauty samples for only $10 a month and I love my first box so far! (and I like how they bill you each month instead of an upfront cost for all your boxes)

sephora play samples

Here’s what was in my first box!

  • Nest Fragrance in Citrine – OMG this smells so good! I didn’t think I would be able to love another smell besides the Versace Bright Crystal, but this smells just like a more citrusy (duh) version! I don’t wanna say it smells more mature cause that’s not it at all, it just smells like Bright Crystal’s older sister, haha.
  • First Aid Beauty Deep Cleanser with Red Clay – I’ve heard such good things about the Red Clay line from FAB, I already love FAB for their moisturizers and eye creams, so this was perfect for me to try. I could definitely tell it got all the gunk off my face and left my face feelings nice and smooth and clean.
  • Beauty Blender Blotterazzi – Now this was something completely new for me. I mean, I’ve heard of oil blotting sheets, but an oil blotting piece of like, sponge-foam?? It’s supposed to help smoothing away any cracks or cakeiness on your foundation and help keep you shine/oil-free. I tried this when I got home, and just like, dabbed it on my face and my makeup ended up dabbing off on it..maybe I’m not doing it right, I’m gonna like, figure out how to keep it in my bag without contaminating it and give another try.blotterazzi
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer – Already have this and am happy to receive a little sample one! This primer feels like velvet on my skin and I prefer this one during the summer as opposed to the Photo Finish since the Pore Minimizer is like, super heavy duty when combating oils.
  • Ouai Wave Spray – Soo, wave sprays never work out for me so I never purchase them anymore. I haven’t tried it yet, but I have heard of amazing things about the Ouai line and hopefully this well help me get those tousled, effortless beach waves.
  • Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzer in Chocolate – I already have this as well and this little sample size will be perfect for traveling and will probably last me awhile. I love the Chocolate Bronzers, they smell SO good and the pigment is nice for an olive-tone like mine. I really like using this shade to contour my nose!

I am so happy I signed up for Sephora Play! They have more products I am interested in trying and I don’t have to log-in every month to customize it! So effortless and I’m excited for my next box! Let me know what you guys think of subscription boxes, like, which is your favorite one?

Covergirl Clean Matte BB Cream | Review + Demo

If you think about it, we experience a lot of “first times” in our lives.

Like, your first time getting a ticket.

Your first time eating cake.

I actually don’t like cake, but I figured like this lemur – most people do.
And last, but not least: your first time trying a BB Cream

I look so disheveled, but I was real tired here!
BB (Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm) Creams have been on the market for quite some time now and to me, I was just never really into them as I didn’t think they provided enough coverage and TBH, I also didn’t really believe the claims that it was better for your skin.

BB creams are supposed to essentially combines beauty products such as moisturizer, primer, foundation, and concealer in one to help you use less products, which in turn, is better for your skin.

What made me purchase the Covergirl Clean Matte BB Cream was that it was intended for oily skin, I thought to myself, “If you’re gonna try a BB cream for the first time, it might as well be one formulated for oily skin!” So I went and bought it.

covergirl clean
Taken from

This BB cream is an oil-free formula that provides the perfect amount of
coverage to even skin tone, hide blemishes, won’t clog pores and keeps you shine-free all day long. -Covergirl

I like the formula of this BB cream, I was expecting some kind of watery lotion but was very pleased at how it felt like foundation.

Clean faced
Now I gotta tell you guys that I did use a primer with this. If I didn’t I knew I would’ve looked a sweaty, shiny, oily, hot mess! I always use primer with any face makeup!

This BB cream comes in 6 shades, and I picked up the shade 540 Medium. It was a little pink-toned on me, but I made it work.

I was super impressed with how natural and smooth the BB cream felt on my skin. It’s definitely a light-to-medium (definitely buildable) coverage and I had to stop myself from putting more on cause I’m just not used to the weightless feel. The BB cream didn’t settle into my pores and I liked the matte finish.

Around 7 am
Here is what it looks like in outdoor lighting!

I did an oil check around lunchtime and was surprised to see that no oil has accumulated on my face. Granted, it’s not like I’m walking around a lot and I am also in a temperature controlled environment, but I love the finish of the BB cream!

Around 12 pm
I did another check at around 3ish and still no oil and no shine!

Finally at the end of my day at around 5:40 pm, you could see some oil and shine starting to peek through. Nothing too serious, I just look a little glowy.

And then when I got home at around 6:15, I could no longer really play off the shine as a natural glow –  I was looking a little oily, but nothing some powder couldn’t fix.

Front camera
For my first time using a BB cream, I would say it went successfully. It lasted through an 8 hour workday! The finish of the mattifying effect is so nice and doesn’t look cakey, looks just like a better version of my skin. it is very lightweight, easy to blend, buildable coverage, and it’s inexpensive! I am going to purchase a lighter shade and combine the two to get my perfect match. I highly recommend this for those with oily skin like mine!

Have you guys tried this out before? Let me know in the comments!

Non-Surgical Face Lift | ChinUp Mask Review

Yes, you read my title right. No, I’m not crazy, I’m just willing to try just about anything (except actual surgery) to get rid of my side double chin.

Yes, my side double chin. I don’t really have a front one unless I do that whole, “when you accidentally open the front camera” thing.

Note: I know I bear an extreme resemblance to this man, but it is not me. This is what my chin looks like though. Image taken from google.

My friends and I will literally have hour long conversations regarding our double chins and what we can do about them. (besides working out, I mean, ain’t nobody got time)

Lucky for me, the ChinUp Mask* entered the picture and has temporarily relieved the situation! This mask helps slim/reduce chin fat, helps to give more contour and lift, and helps moisturize your skin.

Here’s how it works:

You get a sheet mask that you put over your neck, then you put the actual slimming band over your neck and head, you wait 30-40 minutes, and voila! You have a noticeable difference.

You can totally see a difference in the side profiles! And I will say that I probably would have gotten a better result if I had worn the band higher up, like, not so much at an angle at the back of my head.

Now, during the process of waiting, there is a moderate burning sensation. It doesn’t really burn, more like as if you put Icy Hot on your chin.

The packaging says you can lose 2 centimeters in 30 minutes and it did come with measuring tape, but I forgot to use it. It also says it delivers long-term firming results, and I can’t speak to anything long-term. I do think it’s great for if you have a special event to go to and want to look nice and contoured!

I’m super happy I tried this mask out cause it definitely impressed me, I don’t usually try these types of things out unless I’m really interested. I definitely will use this again for short-term effects and then maybe go to the gym more often (I was totally gung-ho for the first 5 months of the year and then fell off the wagon). You guys can check the mask out here!

As always, thanks so much for reading! Let me know your thoughts on this mask below! Would you guys try it?? Please be sure to like, comment, and follow!

I gotta start by saying: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it (or try to make it better)

I think that pretty much sets the tone for this review. As you can tell by the title, I done picked me up a new mascara (so out of character for me, right?). I went into my local Target and got the new Covergirl Supersizer Fibers Mascara.

Now, I was a fan of the old supersizer mascara, but it dried out like, real quick so I never really repurchased it, but I did really like it for separation and length.

This new version claims to increase your lash volume and length by a whopping 400%! Like, dayum Covergirl, reaching a bit much? If a mascara could increase my lash length by that much, my lashes would touch my hairline. #thataintcute This new mascara formula contains built-in fibers for the ultimate false-lash extension effect. This formula is def a drier formula, which Melissa likey.
That 400%, doe.Taken from
The Supersizer fiber mascara has a special Lash Styler that finds and transforms even the smallest lashes. (aka the old Supersizer and new Supersizer fibers use the same wand)

Alright, let’s get to the demo:

Here’s how it looks with one coat, it was pretty average.

Second coat: Definitely liked a lot better. My lashes are separated and fanned out, however, where’s that length doe?

Third and final coat: It got a little clumpy, I almost like the second better than the first coat, but I always do three coats cause I like very bold and dramatic lashes.

Here’s what my lashes look like with different lighting (it was so bright out I had to do it in my car):

Can someone tell me why I look drunk/cross-eyed in almost every close-up?!

I’m just not impressed with this mascara. I felt like my lashes looked average, kinda clumpy and like, not straight. Like, lashes look really brittle and frail and they  have kinks in them. Also, even though this was my ideal drier formula, I almost felt like it was so dry that when I would go in for another coat, little minuscule balls of mascara would attach to my lash (giving it that kinked look).

I did experience some flaking throughout the day, but it wasn’t too bad. As for volume, I feel like there isn’t really none and length looks normal to me.I just prefer more drama and boldness in my lashes and so I would recommend this mascara for someone who likes a more natural, look and wants to use this daily. And maybe to someone who doesn’t have the longest of lashes cause I do think the wand would work in your favor.

Have you guys tried either Supersizer mascara before? Let me know in the comments!
